Who makes it
EarMemo is made by Fan YANG (杨帆), an independent iOS developer. On the App Store the seller name appears as 帆 杨: the same person, with the given name written first. The app earns money one way, the one-time EarMemo Pro purchase, so it has no reason to collect anything about you.

What EarMemo does
- Plays audio files you already have — mp3, m4a, m4b, aac, flac and wav — and the audio track of mp4, mov and m4v videos, in the background with Lock Screen controls
- Reads the chapters built into M4B audiobooks: a table of contents, Previous/Next by chapter, progress for the chapter or the whole book
- Notes written while you listen, each tied to a timestamp; tap the marker to jump back to that second — see timestamped notes
- One-tap bookmarks, or a press on your AirPods once Settings → Headphone Controls is set to Bookmark Here
- Playback speed from 0.5× to 3.5×, a sleep timer with a Live Activity countdown, and a yearly listening heatmap
- Import over Wi-Fi from a desktop browser on your local network, from the Files app, or through the Share Sheet
- Exports notes as plain Markdown files with EarMemo Pro
What EarMemo does not do
- No DRM. It cannot play Audible (.aax / .aaxc), Apple Books audiobooks, Spotify or Apple Music. Use the official apps for those.
- No transcription and no AI. No automatic transcripts, no AI summaries, no flashcards.
- No CarPlay.
- No cloud sync. There is no EarMemo account or sync service; your data follows your own iCloud device backup if you have it turned on.
- No streaming. No catalog and no podcast directory; it plays files you bring.
- No official Obsidian or Readwise integration. Exported Markdown is a file you place in your vault yourself.
Not to be confused with
EarMemo (耳记), the audio player for iPhone and iPad at earmemo.app, has no connection with these:
- earmemo.com — an AI memorization service (Chinese name 磨耳速背). It is a different, unaffiliated product. EarMemo the audio player has no AI features and no account.
- Earmemo ginkgo biloba tablets — a medicine sold in Bangladesh. EarMemo the app has nothing to do with it.
If a search result, review or AI answer mixes them up, the facts on this page are the ones that describe the app.
Privacy, in short
EarMemo has no server of its own and collects no data: no analytics, no third-party SDK, no advertising, no tracking. Settings, playback progress, bookmarks, notes and listening statistics stay on your device. Purchases go through Apple StoreKit, and the optional Wi-Fi transfer stays on your local network. Read the privacy policy.
